What we do

We bring light to the darkness

Our vision is to bring light to the darkness of sexual abuse and exploitation, sensitise the population, support escapees on their road to freedom and work together with you and them to create a society free from modern slavery.

About our organization MISSION FREEDOM e.V.

How our work started

MISSION FREEDOM e.V. was founded on January 1, 2011, to stand against human trafficking and forced prostitution. Our aim is to raise awareness and provide tangible assistance to enable real future prospects for those affected.

We are founded on the basis of the Christian understanding of humanity: every person is created valuable and unique, possessing an inherent dignity that cannot be violated. Our organization was established in 2011 upon learning about the severe exploitation and dignity violations experienced by numerous individuals in prostitution under dire circumstances.

Our headquarters are located in Hamburg. In 2018, we established a second location in Frankfurt. At both sites, we offer exit support for women seeking to leave prostitution and exploitation, coming from various backgrounds. More information can be found here. In Hamburg and Frankfurt, we also conduct outreach work in the red-light districts and provide education on the backgrounds of exploitation.

In 2023, in collaboration with the Youth Welfare Office, we established a specialized children and youth facility at a third location. This facility focuses on minors affected by sexual exploitation. Two fully residential therapeutic groups provide long-term stabilization and support for affected children and adolescents.

Our trauma-sensitive approach

At our locations, interdisciplinary teams of social workers, trauma counselors, educators, and sometimes other professionals such as occupational therapists or nurses collaborate. As a team, we continuously advance our expertise, consistently reviewing and reflecting on our work. Annually, we assess and evolve our concept. Our work is particularly shaped by a trauma-sensitive approach, encompassing several aspects:

  • Stabilization of those affected
  • Resource-oriented daily work
  • Concept of “good reason approach”
  • Concept of “Safe Space”
  • Empowerment and promotion of independence

We are a non-profit organization funded through donations.

MISSION FREEDOM e.V. is officially represented by a board of directors.

Our work

Our work consists of practical support for those affected and educating society. These two areas are divided into:

  • Education Outreach Work /
  • Streetwork
  • Exit Support
  • Networking

Education

We educate about the injustices faced by children and women in our country and encourage others to advocate for those affected. We provide training on topics related to prostitution, exploitation, trauma, and exiting. In schools, we conduct preventive discussions about pimping methods. Feel free to reach out to us for more information.

Street work

In Streetwork, the focus is on meeting and building relationships with those affected on-site, whether through conversations on the street, in brothels, or in contact cafés.We support the establishment of new Streetwork teams and enhance existing ones through training. We promote the establishment of contact cafés and fund an exit support program in Uganda. Additionally, individual members of our organization are actively involved in Streetwork teams in the red-light districts.

Exit assistance – MISSION FREEDOM Homes

At two locations in Germany, we offer protection and exit assistance for victims of sexual exploitation. Through our services, we aim to be the support that enables women from diverse backgrounds in prostitution to start a new life. Our team provides counseling, stabilizes situations, and enhances daily life skills. Individuals work on developing personalized protection strategies and forging new life perspectives.

Networking

Our aim is to offer practical help to victims of sexual exploitation that truly makes a difference in their lives. To achieve this, we continuously evolve our work and collaborate with other experts to bring about change in our country. In our partnerships with other organizations, we share our knowledge and resources. We believe that only together can we bring about change in this country. We are members of several alliances and collaborate with other organizations across Europe.
